על פי הריטב"א, ישנם שני תנאים ששמם היה שמעון בן אלעזר, האחד קבור בטבריה במתחם רבי מאיר בעל הנס והשני קבור בשזור, ליד שמעון שזורי וישמעאל כהן גדול.
לימד כלל חשוב בלימוד המקרא, על פיו במקום שישנן נקודות על האותיות, אם הכתב ללא נקודות מרובה מהנקוד, יש לדרוש את הכתב; ואם הנקוד מרובה מן הכתב, יש לדרוש את הניקוד.
